Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Ohio (BGCNEO) plans to reopen nine stand-alone Clubs throughout the region to offer summer programing for youth aged 6-18 including the Steve Wise Clubhouse in Akron.

The Akron site will offer a nine week program staring on Monday, June 15 and operate from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm, weekdays. While the LeBron James Club, at the Joy Park Community Center, and the Eller Teen Club are not scheduled to reopen for summer programming, the Steve Wise Club will accept pre-registered attendees aged 6-18. Once at capacity, a waitlist will be created for those interested in joining BGCNEO’s Akron summer program.

Working under guidelines from the state, CDC, local health officials and with input from Boys & Girls Clubs of America, we are implementing measures to reduce health risks to our youth and our staff. This includes expanded cleaning and hygiene procedures and limiting the number of individuals permitted in the facility. Staff will be required to wear masks at all times and will have their temperature checked upon entering the facility. Distancing protocols will limit capacity to no more than nine youth in any one programming area at a given time. Additionally, the Clubs have suspended activities that engage volunteers to further protect our Club members from potential risks by limiting in-person interactions within our facilities.

BGCNEO will continue to offer virtual programming to complement our in-person activities. Cyber Club – hosts fun activities for kids that will keep their minds busy and their bodies moving. Tune in to follow Club staff as they help make learning fun! Cyber Club does not require membership to Boys & Girls Clubs and any interested youth can access the activities.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Ohio looks forward to reopening at full capacity to serve Akron area youth with programs to support their academic success, encourage healthy lifestyles, and promote good character and citizenship.
