Four of our Club members have been recognized in the Boys & Girls Clubs of America Midwest Art Contest.
Fine Arts programming is offered year-round at Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Ohio’s Akron Clubs. Youth are encouraged to express themselves through drawing, painting, collages, mixed media, and poetry. Locally, individual pieces are selected, typically by artists and friends of the Clubs, to be submitted to the Midwest Regional Competition.
At the national level, a panel of distinguished judges selects works for inclusion in the National Fine Arts Exhibit, which is displayed the ensuing year at BGCA events, including the annual National Conference.
The local artwork recognized this year includes (left to right), ‘Glamingo’ by Sara O., 8, (mixed media ages 6-9); ‘Swirl’ by Rhiajanee H., 10, (printmaking ages 10-12); Untitled by Darryn G., 10, (watercolor ages 10-12); and ‘Bedtime’ by Deondre P., 12, (oil and acrylics ages 10-12). These pieces will go on to be judged in the BGCA National Arts Contest.
